Food in school
Following the survey of June 2008, we have been working alongside other members of the catering committee to ensure continued improvements to food in school. Full results of our survey can be obtained from the school surgery. Our achievements are summarized below:
School lunches:
Achieved:
Processed and fried foods have been reduced to once per week
Vegetables are now served with meals, and added to dishes during cooking
Salt is no longer available to add to food
Tomato ketchup is only available when chips are served
There is now a direct link to menus on St Julian's website
Working towards:
Integration of new meals to the menu
Removal of instant puddings in favour of healthier desserts

Improved quality of ingredients
Soft Rock Café:
Achieved:
Fizzy drinks are not sold during school hours (before 16.30pm)
Sale of pizzas reduced to three days per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday)
Menu and prices clearly visible
Inclusion of healthier dishes such as fresh juices and soups
Removal of sweets (skittles, mentos, lollipops, rainbow straps etc) from the menu
Students in uniform are not served during lesson time
Working towards:
Menu and prices to be included on school website
Restricted sale of confectionary before lunchtime to students in uniform
Promotion of healthy foods through displays and taster sessions
In addition, we are planning for the summer vacation the installation of new water fountains near playing fields and patio area and the provision of new benches and tables for packed lunch students
