Making a Dramatic Difference

Approaching the end of my third, and final, year of the European Theatre Arts course at Rose Bruford Drama College, I am seeking a means of putting my acquired theatre knowledge and experience into practice, in a new and dynamic context, as well as fulfilling my desire to work with people, and particularly children, from different cultural backgrounds. Liaising with a colleague, Lauren Hopkins, we have decided to carry out a Theatre Research Project at SMD Boarding School, in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Rugby Club News

On January 10th the sub-16 A team beat Belenenses A in a friendly match by 25 - 22, thus achieving our club's best result since its inception. To put this achievement into perspective, Belenenses is one of Portugal's most prestigious, successful and long-standing rugby clubs, established in 1928. Their sub-16 team are the current Campeonato Nacional Série A champions and are drawn from a squad of over 60 players. Naturally, our players (and their parents and coaches!) were absolutely thrilled by such a win, for which they had to dig very deep indeed, as the scoreline suggests.

Rugby News December 2008

The season has got off to a very successful start at all levels. Players in the sub-8, sub-10 and sub-12 age-groups have all been involved in friendly competitions, including our joint second anniversary convívio with Galiza, which took place at the beginning of October and was opened with due ceremony by the British Ambassador, Mr Alex Ellis. There are several new players at this level, including sub-8s Katerina Goold and Leonor Figueiredo - our first girls since the wonderful Kate Cunningham went to play in Australia. They have all had to hit the ground running, and have been helped to do so by our regular coaching staff, who have been joined this season by Mr Oliver Hartwright from England and Mr Damian Steele from Australia.

St. Julian's Rugby Club - Acts Local, Goes Global!

St. Julian's Rugby Club was featured in a programme called "Total Rugby" that was shown on SportTV and Sky Sports in April 2008. The feature looks at the links between our rugby club and that of Escolinha de Rugby da Galiza, a club that, coincidentally, was founded on the same day. For many years now, St. Julian's School students have visited the A.T.L. da Galiza for the community service part of their C.A.S. programmes, and the Galiza rugby club is one of the many social integration projects organised by the centre.

International Mathematical Olympiad Madrid July 2008

The International Mathematical Olympiad is the annual world championship of secondary school mathematics and has been running since 1959. Teams of six students sit two papers for four and a half hours each, on consecutive days. Each paper consists of three problems, and each problem is worth 7 marks, thus a perfect score for a student is 42/42, and the students are ranked according to their personal scores. The host city of the IMO varies from year to year. Detailed contemporary and historical data can be found at http://www.imo-official.org/
The United Kingdom and Australian Teams attended the Pre- International Mathematical Olympiad camp at St. Julian's School.
