ISTA thank you!

On 28th May, 105 visitors from 8 different schools arrived at St. Julian's for the ISTA (International Schools Theatre Association) Festival. There were three days of programs, activities and camaraderie. For the Parents' Association this meant, more specifically, over 70 students who were hosted by St. Julian's families for those three days. Thank you to those host families for the hospitality and care they provided.

Below are some of the testimonials that came from hosts after the festival's end:

"We hosted 2 girls of 13 years old, from Denmark International School. They were not Danish native citizens. One of them was born in Guatemala but she only speaks a little Spanish, the other one was born in Germany she could speak German mainly because her mother is German. They both were very communicative so they wanted to know as much as possible about Portugal, about Parede, about the nearest places to visit. They explained they went to Carcavelos beach and they have enjoyed a lot. They compared our answers about places and our life in Portugal with the places they know in Denmark, with their habits and with their life there. They spoke about their school, what was it like, what subjects they studied and why were they in the ISTA festival. They also offered us a present from their country. For our children it was a wonderful experience, too! They had the opportunity to share ideas, experiences and mainly to talk a lot in English, at home."

"Adrian and I feel that we were very lucky with the two students that came to stay with us. They were both lovely girls, full of life, despite the gruelling schedule and debilitating heat. It was a pleasure to get to know them and we will certainly keep in touch. The only thing that we feel could have improved the hosting for us would have been to spend more time with Roshani and Sandra to get to know them a little better."

"Our two girls from St. John's School were a delight. My daughter was happy to give up her room for them and would have even had them to stay longer as they got on so well. It was very a beneficial experience for them to exchange ideas and see and learn how others live. My daughter is looking forward to future involvement of the brilliant ISTA group."

"We hosted Beth and Emma (both 12 years old) from the Anglo American School of Moscow. It was a pleasure! The girls were very nice, polite and respectful. It can't be easy for them to live (even for a few days) with a completely unknown family in a distant country. They were always trying not to be a burden and thanked us for everything we did a million times... For our children it was very exciting and interesting. They had the opportunity to meet children from another country and culture and it was a lot of fun, too!"

"For us, it was a really good experience. Amelia is a sweet and independent girl. We think the Festival schedule is very "heavy" and they came home very tired. Next time, we would like to have more time with the students."

"It was a pleasure to have Britt and Raz from the American school of Budapest in our house the girls were fantastic, and we spent a really good time together."
